A surprise addition to the PS Plus library
Hailed as one of the most defining titles of its generation, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is finally joining PlayStation Plus! Starting this Friday, Extra and Premium subscribers can relive Naughty Dog’s iconic adventure, now enhanced with its roguelike mode No Return and all the technical upgrades of the Remastered edition.
This addition is the perfect opportunity to (re)experience the story of Ellie and Abby in its most complete and polished form. Whether it’s about extending the journey or discovering it for the first time, there’s hardly a better excuse to revisit this unforgettable post-apocalyptic world.
A refreshed experience with Story Order mode
The game’s arrival on PlayStation Plus comes shortly after the release of the free v2.1.0 update, which radically changes the way players can relive The Last of Us Part II.
This update introduces a brand-new Story Order mode, offering a complete reimagining of the narrative by unfolding events in their exact chronological sequence. Gone are the back-and-forth time jumps and intertwined flashbacks: here, every moment flows naturally, highlighting the subtle connections between Ellie and Abby’s journeys.
By delivering this unique perspective, the update provides a new way to understand the characters and to feel the dramatic tension intended by Neil Druckmann. An excellent reason to dive back into this masterpiece, now more immersive than ever.
An uncertain future for the franchise
This year’s “Last of Us Day” celebration and the game’s arrival on PlayStation Plus naturally raise questions about the franchise’s future. While the TV adaptation continues its run with a third season in the works, the series’ gaming future remains uncertain for now.
When asked recently about the possibility of a The Last of Us Part III, Neil Druckmann suggested the saga might end here, while leaving the door open for a final chapter. Between the cancellation of the multiplayer project in 2023 and the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, his ambitious new IP, all signs point to Naughty Dog preparing for a future beyond Ellie and Abby.
