Yet Another Two Major Xbox Exclusives Are Coming to PS5... Is the Console War Over?
The video game landscape is undergoing a quiet revolution: the once-impenetrable barrier between Xbox and PlayStation is crumbling fast. And this time, two heavyweight exclusives are preparing to make the leap to the PS5 — much to the delight of Sony fans.
As the era of exclusives slowly fades away, Microsoft continues to embrace a bold multiplatform strategy. Following the high-profile arrivals of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Doom: The Dark Ages, and the upcoming Hellblade 2 on PS5, two more Xbox powerhouses are rumored to be making the jump. Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 are reportedly heading to Sony’s console. Let’s break it down.

Gears of War E-Day: A flagship exclusive breaks free
The Gears of War series, long a cornerstone of the Xbox ecosystem, is on the verge of a major shift. After the recent confirmation of the Gears of War: Reloaded remaster for PS5 — a remake of the original game powered by Unreal Engine 5 — rumors of E-Day arriving on Sony’s platform have intensified. And now, there’s little doubt left.
Tangible evidence has surfaced in a developer’s résumé, which clearly lists the PS5 as a target platform. This aligns with a job posting from The Coalition in 2024, which openly sought an engineer with experience on the PlayStation Network.
What remains to be seen is whether the PS5 version will launch simultaneously with the Xbox release, or if there will be a brief delay. Given Microsoft’s recent multiplatform moves, both scenarios are plausible.
State of Decay 3: A first appearance on Sony consoles
Another major surprise: the long-awaited zombie survival sequel State of Decay 3, developed by Undead Labs, is also expected to make its way to the PS5. Once again, the source is a team member’s résumé, which lists a PlayStation version among the planned releases.
As of now, no official release date has been announced for State of Decay 3. Originally expected in 2025, it could slip into 2026. Rumors of layoffs at Undead Labs are casting a shadow over the timeline.
A growing trend gaining momentum
This wave of Xbox-to-PS5 ports is far from a passing fad. It marks a real strategic pivot that Microsoft has been rolling out for several months. Phil Spencer made it crystal clear: there are no more “red lines.” A statement that breaks down symbolic walls between ecosystems and paves the way for franchises once thought untouchable to land on PlayStation.
- Starfield, Bethesda’s flagship title, is widely expected to follow the trend.
- And what about Halo: The Master Chief Collection? Once the face of Xbox, this legendary series might soon arrive on the rival platform as well.
This dynamic is expected to peak during Gamescom 2025, taking place from August 20–24. The event is already shaping up to be the stage for new major port announcements for PS5 and the upcoming Switch 2.
