The Witcher 3 Isn’t Done Yet – New Story DLC Reportedly in the Works

One last journey with Geralt?

Ten years after its release, The Witcher 3 may rise from the ashes with a brand-new story-driven DLC. An unexpected return that could once again make gaming history… and help fans wait a little longer for the much-anticipated The Witcher 4.

While CD Projekt Red is focusing its efforts on developing The Witcher 4, a rumor from Poland has shaken the gaming world: The Witcher 3 might not be ready to bow out just yet. Reports suggest a new narrative expansion is in the works — not internally, but developed by a partner studio.

A surprise return to the Northern Kingdoms?

According to the Polish podcast Rock and Boris, as relayed by MP1st, a third major DLC for The Witcher 3 is reportedly in development. The information comes from multiple independent sources. And the most intriguing part? The content isn’t being developed by CD Projekt Red themselves, but by a third-party studio: Fool’s Theory.

This studio isn’t new to the Witcher universe — its team includes former developers who have previously worked on the saga. Based on their sources, the roadmap appears to be as follows:

Will Geralt return?

The mystery deepens as details about the upcoming adventure remain unclear. There’s been no official word on whether Geralt will appear in this expansion. Could the iconic Witcher pass the torch… to Ciri?

“This content could serve as a bridge between the ending of The Witcher 3 and what’s to come in the fourth installment,” suggests an anonymous source. If true, this DLC would be more than just an add-on — it would help lay the foundation for the saga’s future.

CD Projekt Red, masters of post-launch content

The Polish studio has always been known for its dedication to post-launch support. Even Cyberpunk 2077, which had a rocky start, managed to redeem itself thanks to consistent updates and new content. Their efforts paid off — notably with the surprisingly smooth release of the game on Nintendo Switch 2.

This new Witcher 3 DLC would be part of a broader strategy: keeping legendary franchises alive while internal teams focus on major upcoming projects. A smart approach that could satisfy fans without slowing down production on The Witcher 4 or the next Cyberpunk.

A credible project… but still uncertain

Well-known CDPR insider Boris Nicepolak claims that this project is indeed real, even though nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Of course, it should all be taken with a grain of salt — but he’s been right before. And when he talks, people listen…

One thing’s for sure — the idea of this hypothetical DLC is already capturing imaginations. After Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, adding a third chapter to The Witcher 3 would be a bold — and likely successful — move. Will the prophecy come true in 2026? Until we know more, fans can revisit the world of the Witcher through the latest cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4, a stunning preview that teases a future as dark as it is promising. Get ready — destiny is calling.
