Starfield Is Set to Launch on PS5 with a Second Expansion and Major Upgrades
Starfield might finally land on PS5 in 2026, with a much-anticipated second expansion in tow. After a lukewarm launch and post-release content deemed too light, Bethesda seems ready to reignite the engines with an interstellar push onto PlayStation. Could this revive fan hopes and spark curiosity among new explorers?
As more and more Xbox-branded titles make their way to the PlayStation 5, one name had remained noticeably absent: Starfield. But the trend is clear. Following the confirmation last May of the Gears of War: Reloaded remaster coming to PS5, and the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 heading there too, Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy seems firmly in place. Phil Spencer even confirmed it bluntly: there are no more “red lines.” And if recent reports are to be believed, Starfield is set to arrive on PS5 by spring 2026.

A delayed but strategic liftoff
According to recent information shared by MP1st, the PS5 version of Starfield won’t be released before spring 2026. The wait is long, yes—but not without purpose. Microsoft and Bethesda are reportedly planning to sync this launch with the release of the game’s second major expansion, alongside a significant update focused on quality-of-life improvements. Key elements of this strategy are already taking shape:
- Launch planned for spring 2026 (between mid-March and mid-June)
- No announcement expected at Gamescom 2025, despite speculation
- Simultaneous release with Expansion 2 and optimization patches
In short, don’t expect a surprise reveal at the German expo. Bethesda likely won’t pull off another stealth drop like the one that made waves a few months ago with Oblivion Remastered. This time, all signs point to a more calculated and deliberate approach.
Shattered Space: an underwhelming first step
The first expansion, Shattered Space, didn’t quite turn the tide. While promising on paper, its roughly 8-hour campaign left many players disappointed. Exploration felt restricted, combat repetitive, and the atmosphere overly confined. The result? A lukewarm reception—both on forums and on Steam, where the expansion sits at just 51% positive reviews.
It wasn’t for lack of ambition. Todd Howard himself had compared the content to Far Harbor, one of the most acclaimed Fallout 4 expansions. But between intention and execution, something clearly got lost along the way.
A galactic comeback via PS5?
With the second expansion still nowhere in sight, fans are growing restless. The PS5 version might be a golden opportunity to redeem a game that, despite its flaws, still has potential. This port could give Bethesda a fresh chance to reignite excitement around the title by tapping into a large new audience on Sony’s console. The timing couldn’t be better for a critical and commercial rebound—especially since the publisher still plans to expand Starfield through an ambitious and long-term roadmap.
While the galaxy has been dormant for months, this future PS5 release could be the spark that triggers a cosmic rebirth. Will the stars finally align for Starfield?
