The countdown has begun! On October 14, Square Enix will finally unveil a brand-new Final Fantasy title. A perfectly orchestrated teaser that’s already setting the RPG community abuzz — caught between excitement and curiosity. What surprise is the Japanese giant preparing this time?

While Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has just launched and attention is now turning to FFVII Remake Part 3, Square Enix has decided to take everyone by surprise. On October 14 at 6 a.m. EST, the publisher will reveal a new entry in the series — and here’s the twist: it’s a mobile game coming to iOS and Android.

A New Dissidia Enters the Arena

Forget sprawling console epics — this time, Square Enix is returning to a more accessible format, but one that’s no less ambitious. The title in question appears to be a new installment in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series, the iconic crossover fighting franchise where heroes and villains from across the Final Fantasy universe clash in spectacular battles. According to the teaser site published by the company, the game will focus on “Team Boss Battles”, hinting at fast-paced, strategic multiplayer combat.

On the game’s official website, a few stylized visuals have been released — without giving away any real clues. Still, all signs point to a major comeback for the subseries, which has been dormant since 2018’s Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on PS4 and PC. Before that, fans experienced Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy in 2011 and the original Dissidia Final Fantasy on PSP in 2008.

A Long-Awaited — Yet Controversial — Return

Reactions quickly flooded in following the official announcement on X.com. While some fans are thrilled to see Dissidia return, others are voicing their frustration. The main criticism? The choice of mobile as the platform, seen as too limited for a game of this scale. Many had been hoping for a console release that stayed true to the series’ classic combat systems.

“We want a remaster of the first game or 012 — not a mobile adaptation!”

This sentiment, widely echoed across the platform, highlights just how deeply fans remain attached to the Dissidia identity. Yet despite the criticism, excitement is still in the air — simply seeing the franchise resurface has reignited the passion of long-time followers.

See You on October 14

The suspense is nearly over: in just a few hours, Square Enix will finally lift the curtain on its mysterious project. The official trailer will premiere on the morning of October 14, giving fans a first look at what’s coming to mobile. In the meantime, the publisher has already shared a YouTube link to build anticipation.

This new mobile installment is likely just a taste of what’s to come. Square Enix is clearly ramping up activity around its flagship franchise, with the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 nearing completion. Rumors of a remake of Final Fantasy IX continue to swirl, while the spirit of the legendary Final Fantasy VI seems ready to ignite once more in a new form.

One thing is certain: whether through epic battles on smartphones or grand adventures on consoles, the world of Final Fantasy is far from finished telling its story. The crystal still shines — and its light promises even more revelations to come.
