Death Stranding 2: This Shocking Bug Could Put Your Console at Risk

A simple map screen could destroy your PS5!
Published 1 July, 2025

Since the explosive release of Death Stranding 2, an unexpected phenomenon has been causing panic among PS5 players: mysterious overheating issues turning the console into a roaring jet engine. A puzzling bug, an overly ambitious map… Let’s unravel this mystery together — one worthy of Hideo Kojima himself.

While Death Stranding 2 had already been making waves thanks to rave reviews and its ever more enigmatic universe, a shadow now looms over the celebration: countless players have reported that their PS5s start roaring and overheating — just from opening the in-game map. A seemingly harmless detail that actually hides a true technical time bomb.

A map that brings the PS5 to its knees

It all started on the dedicated Death Stranding subreddit, where a user named mudman2018 described a strange issue: simply opening the map would make his PS5’s fan switch to “take-off mode,” eventually triggering an overheating warning. What began as an isolated incident quickly went viral, with many other players confirming the same problem in the comments.

The situation is even more alarming given that the issue affects both standard and Pro models of the PS5. Some fans have tried to explain this anomaly, suggesting a theory as fascinating as it is worrying: the map might be running at an uncapped frame rate, forcing the console to render an overwhelming number of frames per second, saturating the GPU and causing it to overheat.

Why is this map so demanding?

To understand this, we need to dive into the genius (and madness) of Kojima. In Death Stranding 2, the map is far more than a simple menu: it meticulously recreates terrain, topography, and every minute detail of the world. Such visual richness, usually capped at 60 or 120 FPS, seems to be unleashed here, placing an extreme burden on the console.

The result: even brand-new, dust-free PS5s can’t withstand the strain, ruling out a simple maintenance issue. The community is therefore hoping it’s just a temporary bug, and that a patch will soon come to calm our poor overheating consoles.

No miracle fix (yet)

So far, the latest Death Stranding 2 patch hasn’t addressed the problem. The most cautious players recommend keeping your PS5 in a well-ventilated space and cleaning it thoroughly, even though these measures only offer limited protection against this odd behavior.

For now, all we can do is cross our fingers for an official fix that might finally give our poor fans a break. In the meantime, it’s best to stay alert to avoid an unexpected trip to customer support.

A visual masterpiece… but at what cost?

Despite everything, it’s hard not to admire the breathtaking beauty of Death Stranding 2. Its stunning landscapes, hypnotic artistic direction, and immersive map all testify to Kojima’s boundless talent. But this graphic dream comes at a price: hardware pushed to its limits, even at the risk of overheating. To see for yourself, don’t miss the trailer video below — goosebumps guaranteed!
