Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Sandfall sheds light on the journey ahead
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Sandfall Interactive has delivered more than just a game — it has created a true cultural phenomenon. And judging by the many projects currently in the works, the studio is far from done surprising us.
Launched with great fanfare and met with critical acclaim, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 quickly became a global gaming sensation. But the French studio behind this massive success has no intention of resting on its laurels. From updates and future projects to a potential film adaptation, Sandfall Interactive’s ambitions go far beyond a simple turn-based RPG.

New content in the pipeline
In an official post on their X account (formerly Twitter), the developers confirmed that new features and improvements are currently under consideration.
Bonjour!
— Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (@expedition33) June 16, 2025
We’re currently exploring a wide range of future improvements — from accessibility features to new content and all sorts of bits and bobs we’re actively assessing.
Naturally, this also includes expanded localisation options!
Although no specific release dates or full details have been shared, the studio has teased several promising directions:
- Expanded accessibility to reach an even broader audience
- Additional language support with new localisations
- Brand-new content on the way (DLC or a major update? The mystery remains)
- Various adjustments, which the studio charmingly refers to as “bits and bobs”
This marks a notable shift in tone, especially given that just a month ago, Sandfall stated they weren’t planning any short-term DLCs. But with over 3.3 million copies sold in just 33 days, the game’s explosive success may have reshaped the studio’s priorities.
A game in constant evolution
This new momentum builds on a series of balance and bug-fix patches already released since launch. Take, for example, patch 1.2.3, which heavily nerfed an overpowered character. This ongoing commitment to balance and community feedback clearly shows a desire to keep the game alive and evolving over time.
A bold and promising future
What about the future? It’s shaping up to be just as exciting. In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz at the end of May, Sandfall Interactive producer François Meurisse dropped a big reveal: a new game is already in development.
“There will be another video game,” he said enthusiastically, adding that the team already has plenty of ideas in the pipeline. “The studio has grown, it’s more structured now, and we’re approaching this new project with far more experience than when we started out.”
While no specifics have been shared about the next title, both Meurisse and CEO Guillaume Broche seem genuinely excited — the latter even claiming to have “some excellent ideas” he’s eager to bring to life in their next production.
But the buzz around Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t limited to the gaming world. Hollywood is already eyeing this poetic and mysterious universe. A movie adaptation is reportedly already in the works, despite how recently the game launched.
With upcoming content, a film adaptation, and a new project in development, the Clair Obscur universe is expanding fast — and that’s fantastic news for fans of rich, narrative-driven RPGs.
