Batman Arkham: A New Chapter Is Coming Soon — Just Not the Game Everyone Was Waiting For
Fifteen years after redefining the action game genre and captivating millions of players, the Batman Arkham saga is making headlines again: a brand-new installment has just been confirmed by one of its voice actors.
It was during an interview at Fan Expo Chicago 2025 that Mark Rolston—known for lending his voice to iconic characters such as Norman Osborn in Marvel’s Spider-Man and Jim Gordon in Batman Arkham Shadow—let the news slip. Asked about his various voice-acting experiences, the actor openly revealed that he is about to begin work on a new game in the Arkham series.

A new universe that won’t please everyone
While the announcement of a new Arkham title is exciting for fans, the reality may disappoint some: this project will be a direct sequel to Batman Arkham Shadow and, like its predecessor, a VR-exclusive release. In other words, only Meta Quest headset owners will get the chance to don the Dark Knight’s cape and cowl. This direction is divisive: VR promises unmatched immersion, but it remains a niche market, out of reach for a large portion of players. For many, the real anticipation is still focused on Rocksteady’s long-awaited return with a true single-player game.
Batman Arkham Shadow: a remarkable first step
It would be unfair, however, to dismiss the experience offered by Batman: Arkham Shadow. Developed by Camouflaj and Oculus Studios, the game won over critics thanks to its faithful adaptation of the Arkham gameplay into VR. Set between the events of Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, this spin-off pitted Batman against a new foe: the mysterious Rat King.

It was a bold gamble, but the result proved convincing: the game earned a solid 85 on Metacritic and even won the award for “Best VR/AR Game” at The Game Awards. This recognition validated the immersive approach taken by the developers and fully justified the announcement of a sequel.
A legendary saga that refuses to fade
You can’t talk about Arkham without mentioning its legacy. Back in 2009, Rocksteady made a massive impact with Batman: Arkham Asylum, a game praised for its atmospheric storytelling and innovative gameplay, earning an impressive 92 on Metacritic. This was followed by Arkham City and Arkham Knight, two sequels that became instant classics and cemented the trilogy as the gold standard of superhero video games.
And even though more experimental entries like Arkham Origins or various spin-offs divided opinions, the franchise remains one of the most respected to this day. Fans still scrutinize every rumor of the Dark Knight’s return.
This new project fits into a broader context for the franchise: Warner Bros. is also preparing a brand-new Arkham single-player game. This title is still years away from release, but it aims to recapture the narrative depth and immersive experience that made the early installments such a success.
Between daring spin-offs and a promised return to its roots, the Arkham saga proves it remains a safe bet for players and a playground for innovation for its creators. One thing is certain: Batman hasn’t finished watching over Gotham… and fans will be ready to step back into the shadows.
